The FloMAX Break Away Valve (BAV) has been designed to help protect more expensive refueling equipment from damage due to drive-off and to stem the spillage of fuel. The BAV is available in two sizes, 2” pipe (BAV2) and 3” pipe (BAV3). The BAV has three shear studs that holds two halves of the valve together and holds the internal poppets open. With sufficient force, the shear studs will fracture and the two halves will separate. Upon separation, the internal poppets will close and shut off the flow of fuel from both the hose to the vehicle and the hose to the pump. Figure 1 shows the BAV when connected with the poppets open for fuel flow. Figure 2 shows the BAV shear studs fractured with the two halves separated and the poppets closed preventing fuel flow.
